Granite, Marble, and Stone Countertops
Stone and granite in particular is an excellent if somewhat expensive choice for countertops. Granite is an outstanding choice because maintenance is simple, and consists of a little more than wiping with a damp cloth and drying with a towel to prevent water spots. Use a mixture of mild dishwasher and warm water to clean stone countertops. Make sure that you don’t use lemon, vinegar or other acids and use a cloth or paper towel to clean the countertop.

However marble requires that you care for it properly in order for it to look its best. Marble is not affected by heat, but is susceptible to stains and is porous. It needs to be treated with a special stone sealer that will reduce its porosity, and this will prevent water from penetrating the surface. You must make it a point to wipe up wine, fruit juice and other acidic food spills to prevent staining.
